How Astro Kids is Feeding 1,000+ Children in Soweto | Simangele Nxumalo
Kelebogile Matlou sits down with Simangele Nxumalo, founder of the Astro Kids and Adults Organization, who started it in 2022 after spotting two children in torn school shirts and shoes. Today Astro Kids supports over 300 children across four local primary schools and reaches more than 1,000 children in informal settlements including Namzamu, Chicken Farm and Slovo — providing food, clothing and school uniforms, and backing local under-14 and over-16 boys' sports teams. Simangele explains how she finds families in need by visiting classrooms and homes, and what the organisation still needs: clothing, sneakers for the boys' teams, and a shipping container or Wendy house as a permanent base.
